Fochabers go top with 4 run win

Posted on

Saturday's top of the table clash in the NoSCA Senior League between Fochabers and Buckie at Castle Park ended with a narrow four-run victory for the home side to leave the title race a close contest between three sides at the half way stage.

Previously unbeaten Buckie would have been fancying their chances of maintaining their 100% record when they skittled Fochabers for 98, with Anthony Wilson picking up 5 wickets. However, Buckie themselves were shot out for just 94, with all-rounder Hemant Mandel taking seven for 42 for the home side.

The highest scoring game of the day came at Castle Leod where visitors Forres bounced back after last weeks loss to rack-up 315 runs in their innings. The prolific Pal Dhami again lead the way with 166 runs, ably supported by Gus Farr (69) and Nigel Gerrard (31). In reply Ross County were never in the hunt but Harry Tolliday did help his side to maximum batting points in scoring 113 out of their final total of 207 for 6.

At the other end of the scale, Elgin were shot out for just 20 at Fraser Park - a total which Highland cruised past without loss.  In a closer contest at the Links, Nairn posted 131 for seven in their alotted overs but Fort William eased past this with 5 wickets in hand to maintain 4th place in the league table.
