Senior League - Week 4 round-up

Posted on

After four rounds of the NoSCA Senior League programme there are two unbeaten sides locked together at the top of the table.

Highland were once again impressive in sweeping aside bottom club Nairn at the Links, skittling the home team for just 89 runs - 48 coming from the bat of Patrick Gerring. Dave Wolton did most of the damage, taking four wickets for just 18 runs in his 12 over spell. In reply Highland were never troubled as they cruised to a 10 wicket victory thanks to 60 not out from Ryan Main and 31 not out from Jonathan Crabtree.

With Fochabers, the other unbeaten team, having the weekend off it was left to Forres and Buckie to try and play catch-up on the leaders. Forres batted first at Grant Park and were indebted to the Farr family for the bulk of their runs - father Tony making 41 not out and sons Gus and Alistair 64 and 34 respectively - out of their total of 212 for 7. This proved too much for the visitors who could only muster 169 for 8 in reply - Johnny Corsie top scoring with 45 and Steve Barron and Fraser Merricks picking up a couple of wickets each.

In the day's highest scoring game Northern Counties beat Ross County by 112 runs at Castle Leod. Matt Newman survived three early chances to hit 162 not out (his second century in three innings) and was ably supported by Dave Dugdale (75 not out) as the visitors posted 269 for 2 in their 45 overs. In reply, Ross County never recovered from a slow start and the loss of two early wickets. Despite 80 runs from the bat of Graeme Carney and 36 from John Sugden they were never in the hunt and had to settle for just 4 batting points, closing on 157 for 8.

Next Saturday's game of the day sees unbeaten Highland take on last year's cup winners Forres at Fraser Park.
